Decorex Cape Town
Entering Decorex Cape Town last week, I was subconsciously expecting to see a lot of classy, elegant black stands. Black and grey have been designer favourites at the show for a while. This was not the case at Decorex Cape Town, I walked into the show and my eyes nearly popped out when the stand in front of me – Mr Price – was eye candy in beautiful Indigo blues, with accents of green, gold and copper.

While Mr Price did go on to win awards, including the best use of colour, it was not the only stand to go for these shades. Here are some of my indigo blue and forest green finds from the show. Decorex Cape Town took place at the CTICC from the 27th to the 30th of April.
The 100% Design SA showcase of 8 local design creative’s was a must see. Included in the collection was my favourite item on the show. The “Leifo” Afrofuturistic chair by Eve Collett of Casamento in collaboration with Atang Tshikare of Zabalazaa http://www.zabalazaa.com/. Making it so special is the authentic cultural story behind the creative design. Metallic studs reminiscent of fire embers and the chair back a dreamcatcher. A dream chair for sure.

Another 100% Design showcase was Michael Chandler’s “Friends of Chander House.” Featured here “The unswept Kombuis” hand-painted glazed ceramic tiles by Lucie de Moyencourt and Michael Chandler and The Cape Of Good Hope Chair, hand-painted by Patricia Fraser and upholstered by William Tough.

We decided to create a serene and contemporary bedroom in the Plascon home, using blues and greens from the Plascon 2017 Colour Forecast. The colours used were a forest green called “Ridge” and a blue called “Hayley’s Cove.” The neutral on the ceiling and in the geometric design is Plascon’s Colour of the Year “In the Mood”.

The Linen Drawer used a dark indigo blue to create a moody bedroom which showcased their beautiful linen perfectly.

A collaboration between Interior Designer Christina Wiese and Ernest H interiors. Ernest designed the beautiful coffee table with brass inlays.

The Kitchen companies also embraced indigo blue and forest green. Holly Wood Kitchens included a forest green cupboard which added a modern twist with a connection to nature.
I loved the indigo blue cabinets on the Unique Kitchens stand. I was told that Plascon matched the blue on their cabinets to a diary one of the team had.

With so much gloominess in the world today, we can all do with a bit of colour to cheer things up. Blue and greens are perfect as they are calming colours that link us to nature.
I hope you have a happy and colourful week.
