Bedroom Makeover

Working on Spaces Magazine means I get to see the most beautiful makeovers done by wonderful stylists. This often leaves with me a dilemma because I can’t choose what I want to do in my own house.

Bedroom Inspiration

A while ago we featured this bedroom in Spaces magazine. I fell in love with it and just knew I had to recreate the look in my own home.

Before 

I eventually started the process and painted the bedroom a neutral base colour – that was 5 months ago! Nervous I would not be able to capture the beautiful look by paint effect specialists Julian and Ilaria Louw of Paintiques in Cape Town, I was waiting for a stroke of artistic brilliance to hit me – but it never came.

After 

Having just finished the new Winter Edition of Spaces magazine that features four bedroom looks, I could wait no more. This weekend I chose a grey green from the painting in the bedroom. I went to my hardware store bought 5 litres of paint and painted a feature wall – the wall behind the painting.While it is not the artistic bedroom I had in mind, the males in the family prefer it including our dog.

Goes to show, you don’t need to be an artist to do a makeover, nor do you need to be a decorator. A simple change of colour with some inspiration can make the biggest difference. I have not given up on my dream bedroom. I am sure it won’t be too long before that artistic flair rises again.
