Durban Interior Decorator
Interior Decorator Celeste Bushnell is based in Umhlanga where she lives with her husband and three sons. They recently bought and renovated a home in the area to create their ideal family home.
Surrounded by boys, there is a lot masculine energy which inspired Celeste to style the home in an industrial, contemporary way which has a calming feel to it.

Formal Dining Area

On entering the home you are welcomed by this magnificent chandelier over a beautiful natural wood dining table. The chandelier was customized by Celeste to fit the space and table perfectly. The wood floors and chandelier soften the otherwise industrial feel of concrete walls on one side and black textured wallpaper on the opposite wall. Celeste commissioned Umhlanga artist Karen Dennyschene to do the artwork.

Guest Bathroom
In the guest room Celeste wanted to do something special. She ordered this 3D tropical wallpaper – which was specially made to fit the dimensions of the bathroom – from a company in Spain.

Kitchen and Living Area
Black and white with neutral shades form the basis of the colour scheme throughout the home, with green plants and flowers bringing in nature and metallics adding some glamour. There is a great use of lighting throughout the home – including unexpected places like under the kitchen island top.

Everything went a bit blurry when my eyes were drawn to the glass jars filled with chocolates. Something that wouldn’t last long in my home for sure. Visiting this home reminded me how flowers add so much beauty and uplift a home. There was a bunch in nearly every room.

A closer look at the 3D wallpaper in the entertainment area and also the Surilight chandelier specially customized in a rectangular shape for Celeste by Egg Designs.

Master Bedroom
The master bedroom is the only room in the house that Celeste added a slightly feminine touch. She used her favourite colour white together a with a soft grey and white wallpaper on two sides of the room and a soft dove grey paint on the other two walls. Pink and silver accessories and artwork create a calming atmosphere which makes the master bedroom a wonderful place to escape and recharge – male or female.

Celeste’s dressing room is a dream. The chandelier was given a coat of pink chalk paint to fit in with the colour scheme.

Teenager’s Bedroom
Celeste’s sons room has 3 feature walls that work really well together and help demarcate the different spaces in the room. A geometric design wall paper behind the bed, a glossy wood paneled wall behind the desk and TV and a black wall with a funky painting by Karen Dennyshene behind the couch. The cushions on the bed were made specially using artwork from one of Celeste’s artist friends.

Patio Living Area
It is rare to see a living room that is just as beautiful outdoors as it would be indoors. This is sure to be a space the family spends lots of time together.

I love how well connected the interior is to the exterior of the home. The way in which a neutral colour scheme was used as a base for the home but how touches of colour and texture made it so interesting. For me the cherry on the top was the fabulous artworks that add so much personality to the home.
